We are searching for an experienced Digital Strategy Consultant at our Ethiopia facility.
Project Overview:
The Challenge Fund for Youth Employment (CFYE) is a 7-year and €134 million programme funded by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs that aims to create a prosperous future for 230,000 young women and men in the Middle East, North Africa, Sahel & West Africa and Horn of Africa regions. The Fund will be supporting initiatives in 11 focus countries that will offer youth, in particular young women, opportunities for work that is demand-driven and productive, offering a stable income and safe working conditions, and that is contributing to their personal development and social protection.
Private sector, civil society and knowledge institutions will be invited to submit proposals geared to scalable solutions for creating more and better jobs and income generating opportunities for youth. Solutions will in particular focus on an integrated approach that addresses the shortcomings on the demand side (jobs) and supply side (skills) and bridging the mismatch between these two in the labour market.
Assignment Overview:
Horn Afrique Poultry Farm (HAPF) is a leading poultry company based in the Somali Region, specializing in high-quality chicken and egg production. Established in July 2019, HAPF operates with more than 30,000 layer and meat-type chickens. Currently located in Kebele 10 and 19, Jigjiga town, HAPF is in the process of expanding its operations to other cities and states, where it launched a full-fledged poultry production, feed mill, and hatchery unit on a 17,000m2 plot of farmland.
As of March 2024, HAPF has created direct job opportunities for more than 100 local communities, improved and matched for more 115 young women and men with plans to increase this number over time. Additionally, HAPF is committed to promoting refugee self-reliance and generating economic opportunities for host communities by implementing Innovative Agent Models in Awbare and Kebribeyah refugee camps. Recognizing the potential to expand its impact, HAPF is considering intervention in the Dollo-ado area, which hosts the largest refugee population camps in Ethiopia, with over 250,000 refugees and asylum seekers.
In order to achieve this ambitious target, HAPF requires technical assistance in developing their digital strategy. The role involves supporting HAPF, one of CFYE’s Implementing Partners (IPs), to establish digital solutions, specifically leverage digital technologies such as Odoo, an ERP software platform that offers a comprehensive suite of business applications to enhance HAPF’s operational efficiency, market presence, and growth prospects within the poultry industry. More specifically, supporting HAPF.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Specific Activities:
The primary objectives of this consultancy include:
– Assessing HAPF’s current digital landscape and identifying areas for improvement.
– Developing a tailored digital strategy to optimize HAPF’s digital presence, operations, and customer engagement.
– Implementing digital solutions, using an ERP such as Odoo which offers a comprehensive suite of business applications and provides a range of integrated modules to manage different areas of a business. This activity should help HAPF to streamline processes, enhance data management, and improve decision-making.
– Providing training and support to HAPF staff to ensure effective implementation and utilization of digital tools and platforms.
– The consultant will provide comprehensive services for developing and implementing a digital strategy, including assessment, strategy development, implementation, training, and ongoing support.
The consultant will provide a team of digital strategy experts, while HAPF staff will participate in strategy development and implementation. Collaboration between both parties is crucial for project success.
Deliverables:

– Digital landscape assessment report.

– Implemented digital solutions (Planning, Sales, CRM, Accounting, Inventory management, project management, manufacturing, POS, website, Timesheet, HR, Invoicing, Purchase,

– Progress reports and presentations to HAPF senior management.
– Final Presentation and report on progress made for HAPF stakeholders.
Reporting:
The consultant will be contracted by CFYE and will provide regular progress reports to both HAPF management and CFYE country lead. Close collaboration with HAPF management and staff is essential, requiring frequent participation in meetings and site visits.
Planning and Expected LoE (Level of Effort):
The consultant will be engaged for 4 months, with an effort of 2 days/week. Project milestones include assessment, strategy development, implementation of ERP, and training. Regular progress reports and meetings will be conducted to monitor project progress.
Required Qualifications:
– Digital Analysis: Proficiency in assessing HAPF’s digital landscape to identify areas for improvement.
– Strategy Development: Proven ability to craft tailored digital strategies aligned with client objectives.
– Implementation: Expertise in deploying digital solutions, including enterprise resource planning to enhance operations and decision-making.
– Training and Support: Skill in providing training and ongoing support to ensure effective tool utilization.
– Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of the poultry industry in Ethiopia and its digitalization needs.
– Collaboration: Ability to foster teamwork and align digital initiatives with business goals.
– Innovation: Capacity to leverage emerging technologies for competitive advantage.
CVs will be evaluated based on the consultant’s experience in digital strategy and understanding of the poultry industry. The consultant must demonstrate experience in developing digital strategies including ERP, preferably in relevant industries. A thorough understanding of the Ethiopian market and digital technologies is advantageous. Knowledge of the Somali language is preferable, as it will facilitate effective communication and collaboration with Horn Afrique Poultry Farm (HAPF) stakeholders and staff members.
