Association Al Jisr & Big M Solutions

Green Code is a project led by Moroccan consortium Al Jisr and Big M solutions. Al Jisr is a non-profit association with over 25 years of experience in addressing the challenges related to people not in education, employment or training (NEET) and developing support programs aimed at integrating young people into the job market. The association has a public utility, and a board composed of business leaders and experts from various fields, including education and digital. Big M Solutions on the other hand is a dynamic and proactive Moroccan company that has made digitalisation consultancy its specialty. It boasts an extensive network of corporate clients in the digital and IT sectors, both regionally and internationally. GREEN CODE aligns with Morocco’s strategy of digitising the economy, which promotes employability, entrepreneurship, and the enhancement of both soft and technical skills in the digital sector as a sustainable development driver. It integrates the goals of decent work, reducing inequalities, and gender equality. The objective of GREEN CODE project is to provide innovative solutions to enhance the employability of NEET’s.

The Problem

Over 35% of Moroccan population are currently not in employment, not in education and not in training (NEET), and over 45% of these are women. Despite their efforts, many young NEETs face difficulties in finding decent employment. At the same time, Morocco confronts a large digital skills gap, with over 200,000 skilled workers needed in the digital sector. Digital jobs would provide significantly more career opportunities for young Moroccans, but most lack the relevant skills to apply. Currently Morocco offers very few accessible training and support programs for these vulnerable young individuals with an interest in digital technology.

The Solution

The GREEN CODE project, in a partnership between Al Jisr and Big M Solutions, addresses Morocco’s digital skills shortage with a focus on NEETs. The project also aligns with the Morocco Digital 2025 strategy, aiming to advance the digitisation of the economy, expand Morocco as a regional digital hub, and improve relevant regulatory conditions in the country. GREEN CODE will target NEETs aged 18 to 35 years with a penchant for digital skills, seeking to enter employment or self-employment. In total, the project aims to select 370 young participants, with 40% being women. The goal is to encourage women to pursue careers in digital fields, often considered male-dominated, to provide them with better employment opportunities and competitive salary ranges. The program is also designed to be inclusive for young people with disabilities.

GREEN CODE will offer three types of free training for the selected participants:

  1. Practical skill development aligning with the market demand: Digital Marketing, Advertising, Content Creation, Front-end Development, Generative AI (from concept to practice), Sales and Telesales, Game Development.
  2. Soft skills training to maximise their success in the labour market.
  3. Entrepreneurship startup training is offered to learners wishing to begin a career as self-entrepreneurs.

All participants are supported by a team of professional mentors and will work on concrete projects proposed through partnerships with employing companies, operating in local and/or offshoring markets. At the end of their training period, participants can expect job placement or self-employment opportunities, as well as improved employability, depending on the specific career program they have followed. This collaboration with employers allows the project to identify and address market needs and ensure that participants acquire relevant skills aligned with the demands of the Moroccan market.

All in all, the project aims for a job placement rate of over 80%. Approximately 20% of participants are expected to be supported towards self-employment.
