We are searching for an experienced Sales and Marketing Strategy Consultant at our Ethiopia facility.
Project Overview:
The Challenge Fund for Youth Employment (CFYE) is a 7-year and €134 million programme funded by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, that aims to create a prosperous future for 230,000 young women and men in the Middle East, North Africa, Sahel & West Africa and Horn of Africa regions. The Fund will be supporting initiatives in 11 focus countries that will offer youth, in particular young women, opportunities for work that is demand-driven and productive, offering a stable income and safe working conditions, and that is contributing to their personal development and social protection.
Private sector, civil society and knowledge institutions will be invited to submit proposals geared to scalable solutions for creating more and better jobs and income generating opportunities for youth. Solutions will in particular focus on an integrated approach that addresses the shortcomings on the demand side (jobs) and supply side (skills) and bridging the mismatch between these two in the labour market.
Assignment Overview:
Horn Afrique Poultry Farm (HAPF) is a leading poultry company based in the Somali Region, specializing in high-quality chicken and egg production. Established in July 2019, HAPF operates with more than 30,000 layer and meat-type chickens. Currently located in Kebele 10 and 19, Jigjiga town, HAPF is in the process of expanding its operations to other cities and states, where it launched a full-fledged poultry production, feed mill, and hatchery unit on a 17,000m2 plot of farmland.
As of March 2024, HAPF has created direct job opportunities for more than 100 local communities, improved and matched for more 115 young women and men with plans to increase this number over time. Additionally, HAPF is committed to promoting refugee self-reliance and generating economic opportunities for host communities by implementing Innovative Agent Models in Awbare and Kebribeyah refugee camps. Recognizing the potential to expand its impact, HAPF is considering intervention in the Dollo-ado area, which hosts the largest refugee population camps in Ethiopia, with over 250,000 refugees and asylum seekers.
In order to achieve this ambitious target, HAPF requires technical assistance in Sales and Marketing. The role involves supporting HAPF, one of CFYE’s Implementing Partners (IPs), in developing and implementing effective marketing and sales strategies tailored to its operations. This support is crucial for HAPF to optimize its market presence, increase sales, and achieve sustainable growth in the poultry industry.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Specific Activities:
The primary objectives of this consultancy include:
– Analysis of Market Dynamics: Conduct a comprehensive analysis of the poultry market in Ethiopia, identifying trends, competition, and consumer preferences.
– Development of Tailored Marketing Strategies: Design and implement marketing strategies customized to HAPF’s target market, focusing on brand positioning, product promotion, and customer engagement.
– Sales Optimization: Develop sales strategies to enhance HAPF’s market penetration, distribution channels, and customer acquisition.
– Capacity Building: Provide training and support to HAPF staff to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to implement marketing and sales strategies effectively.
The consultancy firm will provide end-to-end services for developing and implementing marketing and sales strategies, including market analysis, strategy development, capacity building, and ongoing support.
Deliverables:
Deliverables for this project include:
– Market analysis report.
– Tailored marketing and sales strategies developed.
– Marketing and sales training materials for HAPF staff.
– Progress reports and presentations to HAPF senior management.
– Final Presentation on Marketing and sales strategy for HAPF stakeholders.
Reporting:
The consultant will be contracted by CFYE and will provide regular progress reports (at least monthly) to both HAPF management and CFYE country lead. For the coordination of day-to-day activities, the consultant will liaise with the HAPF Management representative. The consultant is expected to work intensively with the HAPF team and its partners, requiring frequent participation in different meetings and where necessary site visits and other relevant locations. A consultant is expected to work at least 2 day/week on average from the HAPF head office.
Planning and Expected LoE (Level of Effort):
We expect the consultant to be engaged for a period of 4 months. For the initial stage of engagement (first two months) we expect a more intense involvement in the marketing strategy assessment and improvement plan, and the training on marketing strategy to HAPF team and stakeholders’ colleagues. The subsequent 2 months are more focused on coaching on monitoring of implementation of improvement plan. Hence for the first two months, we expect an average level of effort of 2.5 days/week (total of 20 days) and for the second two months, we expect an average level of effort of 2 day a week (total of 16 days). In total a maximum of 36 days is required for this assignment. We expect the consultant in his/her proposal to indicate a tentative planning for the activities, including indication of days needed per activity
Required Qualifications:
– Market Analysis: Proficiency in gathering and analysing market data to provide actionable insights for strategy development.
– Strategy Development: Proven ability to create tailored marketing and sales strategies aligned with client objectives.
– Capacity Building: Expertise in delivering training programs to enhance client teams’ skills in executing strategies effectively.
– Industry Expertise: Deep understanding of the poultry industry in Ethiopia, including production processes and regulatory frameworks.
– Cross-functional Collaboration: Skill in fostering collaboration across departments to achieve common business goals.
– Innovative Thinking: Creativity in developing strategies to differentiate clients, engage customers, and capitalize on industry trends.
– Adaptability and Agility: Ability to respond flexibly to market changes and challenges during strategy implementation.
CVs will be evaluated based on the consultant’s experience in marketing strategy and understanding of the poultry industry. CVs should demonstrate experience in developing marketing and sales strategies, preferably in the agricultural sector. A thorough understanding of the Ethiopian market and fluency in Somali language is advantageous.
