We are searching for an experienced Intern – Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning, CFYE at our Kenya facility.

You are eligible for this position if you have some experience in project data collection management, data quality checks and among other MEL related areas. Please note that Only applicants who are residents in Kenya will be considered.

Project Overview:

The Challenge Fund for Youth Employment (CFYE) is a 7-year and €134 million programme funded by the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs, that aims to create a prosperous future for 230,000 young women and men in the Middle East, North Africa, Sahel & West Africa and Horn of Africa regions. The Fund will be supporting initiatives in 12 focus countries that will offer youth, in particular young women, opportunities for work that is demand-driven and productive, offering a stable income and safe working conditions, and that is contributing to their personal development and social protection.
The portfolio of projects is selected from business cases that were proposed by private sector, civil society and knowledge institutions. Each business case has outlined scalable solutions for creating more and better jobs and income generating opportunities for youth. Solutions in particular focus on an integrated approach that addresses the shortcomings on the demand side (jobs) and supply side (skills) and bridging the mismatch between these two in the labour market.

CFYE Kenya Portfolio Overview:

Based on the unmet labour demand in Kenya, the youth’s aspirations, and the economy’s potential, we have developed a portfolio focusing on Digital Business Development Services and Green Jobs. Our portfolio in Kenya plans to accomplish more than 47.000 decent jobs for youth. Around 18.000 of these projected jobs will be created, while the others will either match youth to decent employment or improve the existing jobs. CFYE’s portfolio in Kenya consists of different sectors creating high-productivity jobs for youth. Our current portfolio is a mix of waged employment and self-employment initiatives in line with the aspirations of young Kenyans. The private entities we partner with bring innovative solutions to creative sector, agriculture supply chains, cybersecurity, waste management, and many other industries, with one clear goal: to engage youth in meaningful employment.

Assignment Overview:

The Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) Intern will be supporting the MEL advisor with project data collection management and data quality checks. S/he will assist the MEL Advisor review data shared by the implementing partners during the reporting periods to ensure its complete and accurate as well as support with the verification process which includes review of data validation documents and verification processes. Other roles will include data cleaning, tools development and data collection for CFYE and support with data management on Share point. Support Country team to facilitate learning events to ensure promising practices, success/failure factors, lessons learned, and recommendations are identified across the Country portfolio.

Deliverables:

– Prepare a database for the implementing partners as per request for outputs and outcomes.
– Assist with documentation of datasets and Salesforce reports and dashboards for all IPs
– Establish protocols with the MEL and Programs team for consistently updating the tracking tool and communicating updates internally

Requirements:

– Relevant MEL or Data Management knowledge and skills.
– Data synthesize and analytical skills especially Ms. Excel.
– Some experience using both qualitative and quantitative data collection/research techniques.
– Proficient in English (verbal and writing skills).
– Attention to detail and ability to perform multiple tasks and balance competing priorities effectively and efficiently.
– Demonstrated ability to effectively convene, coordinate and communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders.
– This role will be based in Kenya and requires the incumbent to understand the Kenya context.
– Able to work well with a variety of individuals in a cross-cultural setting.

Core Competencies:

– Strong communication skills – an ability to clearly communicate (both written and oral) complex results to technical and non-technical audiences.
– Excellent attention to detail and ability to perform multiple tasks and balance competing priorities effectively and efficiently often within a required timeframe.
– Basic knowledge in office suit (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
– Strong business acumen.

Level of Effort and Reporting:

Full time for a period of 3 months (July 2024-September 2024). The assignment will start in mid-July 2024.
